Discussion 3

Media Will Never Influence Learning
I agree with other people that I don't believe that any type of media/technology will ever replace traditional instruction. There are somethings that need that teacher touch that technology can't provide sometimes. There are many Pros and Cons to using technology in the classroom. I think that if too much instruction is used with technology, then the technology is outweighing the teacher especially in the students minds. There are many great ideas and different programs that teachers can use with computers in their classroom but in the end, I have to say that if the technology isn't working and is ineffective, then it will have absolutely no impact on the students learning what so ever.

When Each One Has One
This is interesting. Having worked at a school last year that had the laptops for every student, I did observe many students not paying attention to the teacher lecturing about a lesson that was being done on the computer. The teacher was giving directions about a certain topic and what to do and the students were doing something completely different. This could be that they already knew how to do whatever it was that the teacher was talking about or that the computer was a big distraction to the students. What ever the case may be, the teacher really needs to push using the technology hard and the rules about using them in the classroom. As we said before in class, the teachers need to have more training workshops to become better in implementing different technologies in the classroom. Again, there are Pros and Cons in anything, but in the end if the teacher is monitoring and being innovative with the computers, then they are a definite advantage of having the students have them in the classroom.
